Kinsale U15 Development -v Highfield U15 Development 14/1/12
The benefits of a larger squad, more realistic training sessions and competition for places were seen clearly last
Saturday. This was the second game under the new amalgamated regime and the result was in the end a resounding win.
It was a beautiful setting but it was a cold windy morning. With players missing/changing the start of the game was
a bit messy and slow. Some players had to play out of the comfort zone in new positions and it took a while for
combinations to settle. What remained constant throughout however was the commitment of the whole squad not just
the starting 15 to give it their all.
The game consisted of 2 thirty minutes halves, The first half Highfield played uphill and against the wind, Highfield
were strong in the set pieces and won most 50/50 balls, they scored 2 tries and converted one, Kinsale responded with
a break away try which was converted, Highfield led 12. 7 in the first half.
A few tactical changes had been made in the first half and in the second half Highfield found it's rhythm. A further
five tries were scored with 2 conversions, the tries covered the full range from individual breaks, forward pick up
and go's to multiphase play. Kinsale tired significantly in the second half but kept battling and did score a
further try.
FINAL SCORE 12 - 41
Congratulations to the whole team it was a great effort and made the hard work and earlier defeats worth it.
Thank you to the Referee who kept the game going and ensured the game was played in the right spirit.
Particular mention needs to be made to the Try Scorers Mark Lougheed, Daragh Cox, Andre Christie, Eoin Keating, Evan Regan-O'Brien and Cathal Sheehan who scored 2 tries and made a try saving tackle when the game could have gone either way!
